RINKAI FUKUTOSHIN SYMBOL PROMENADE

Symbol Promenade stretches around for 4 kilometers through Ariake, Odaiba and Aomi in Rinkai Fukutoshin, Tokyo Bay, and offers a place of recreation and relaxation. There are other popular attractions in the area such as Tokyo Big Sight, Ariake Coliseum and Odaiba Kaihin Park.

Signage for Symbol Promenade was coordinated to be related to the overall guidance system of Rinkai Fukutoshin.

Strategically laid-out explanatory directories and a three-dimensional tactile map guide visitors to scenic spots such as Yumeno Ohashi and Umini Mukau Hiroba. These signs were designed not to obstruct landscape.

Contoured textured surfaces were contrived for the tactile map so children or visually impaired people can have much fun to understand the whole picture of Rinkai Fukutoshin.

A study model for the map was tested by the visually impaired people, and detailed study was made based on their advice on its performance and quantity of information.
